The Crystal Office Systems-applications Maple and Maple Professional are both properly good at helping you get your information organized and at helping you easily find and use your information. What Maple does is it allows you to structure your data as a tree-based diagram with an unlimited number of nodes and sub-nodes. In other words, it allows you to organize your data in a hierarchical structure.

Maple Professional does everything that Maple can do. But it wouldn’t deserve the Professional part in its name if it did just that. On top of the functionality provided by Maple, Maple Professional adds some advanced features for the pro user. Like the ability to encrypt files for example.

Where does Maple Reader fit into this picture? Well, if you created a tree-based diagram with Maple or Maple Professional, and you give that diagram to someone, that someone will only be able to view it if:
- He has Maple installed.
- He has Maple Professional installed.
- He has Maple Reader installed.

The thing is that Maple and Maple Professional both cost money. And unless the person you send the tree file wants to use Maple/Maple Professional, I don’t think he’ll be willing to part with his hard earned money. Maple Reader on the other hand does not cost a thing – the application is free for noncommercial use. The friend or colleague you sent the Maple tree file will be much more willing to get a free application that allows him to view the file, don’t you think?

Just like it siblings, Maple Reader works with all versions of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system. Also like its siblings, Maple Reader works from external or portable storage devices. Unlike its siblings, Maple Reader does not cost a thing.

Pros

  • View tree files created with Maple or Maple Professional
  • Portable
  • Free for noncommercial use

Cons

  • Limited use (can only be used to view tree files created with Maple or Maple Professional)
